    • No circulation of blood to the skin I know is a cause. I don't know if its the only cause however.

    • Smoking is supposed to be a BIG cause of this. The closer to (including on) the face the type of surgery will be, the greater the hazard. Many surgeons advise quitting for -- I believe -- at least a couple months beforehand, and of course continuing not to smoke for a good period afterwards.

I guess there are some exceptions, and opinion varies. My very esteemed doctor who did my upper & lower bleph said it does not affect those eye procedures much if at all, and indeed I had no problem. However, I have *always* heard that smoking is a huge no-no with face lifts. And there are extremists out there: last week I had a consult for a scar on my calf, and that surgeon said he won't do work on ANY body part of a smoker.
